If its stock and never been tuned then its fine. But you want to do an EGR delete immediatelly and upgraded oil cooler.
If you plan on making power or adding tuner headstuds and gaskets are good idea

That’s the question that my dad had. Two years and at least $2k later it’s finally running right. The problem areas include the injectors, EGR system, the turbo, fuel pump and the oil cooler.

The man with the thick Southern accent who frequents the Chick-Fil-A I used to work at loved his 2006 6.0, but was scared that the gaskets were going to blow at any moment.

Honestly no they aren’t that bad. They have a bad rap that isnt representative of the truck. Do the supporting upgrades. Head gasket, studs, egr delete, etc. And it a great truck I would upgrade from my 97 7.3 to a 6.0 just for the creature comforts. As long as the price is good and you have money left to do the mods to make it bullet proof go for it.

If you have a rainy day fund for the head gaskets and EGR fix, not really. The ‘05 and up ones were less problematic though.

It’s bad enough that Ford sued Navistar over it, and went back to making deisel engines themselves.
That is a pretty freaking clean truck though!
These guys claim to be able to fix the 6.0's problems. I couldn’t tell you if it works or not though.

My best friend bulletproofs them too. To good success as well. Studs, better head gasket and machine work, 12-15k later boom hot rod turbo v8.

It costs about $2500-$5000 to “bulletproof” a 6.0
No, you don’t have to go through the guys listed in that other post.
Basically, removing the EGR and installing longer head studs does the trick.
I was always under the impression that the later 6.4 was a better motor, so I bought a 2009. It wasn’t till later that I found out the 6.4 is actually the worst of the lot and they’ve been known to fail at under 100k without warning... the worst part is there’s no method of “bulletproofing” the 6.4 and the design is so poor that virtually any repair requires removal of the cab, equating over $1000 just to start the repair.
Fwiw I know of many 6.0's with over 500k after the head studs and EGR delete. I haven’t seen a 6.4 with over 350k.

I’ve heard the 6.4 isn’t any better. Non rebuildable and disposable is what the internet says. Only time will tell if the ford in house 6.7 will live up to the 7.3 fame or go down as the same rod knocking blunder is the 6.4

I’ve heard the same. Time will tell. Diesel guys shat all over the Duramax when it came out, because it had aluminum heads, but it’s turned out to be a good motor. You never know until the facts are it.

If the head gaskets are an issue, there has to be a felpro or an aftermarket company that makes a revised gasket.

Well the cab has to come off the truck, the machine work to the heads, typically you find a bad piston or connecting rod, it adds up though. He's on the cheaper end up here. Also I'm sure it cheaper if you haven't blown up...

Yup, I’ve seen pictures like this quite a few times.
But hell yeah if I can get a bulletproof 6.0. They seem to be the only inexpensive ones I can find without tons of rust.

I’m personally looking at BP’d 6.0's, 7.3's and Ram 5.9's.
If it’s gonna be a 6.0 I’m focusing on the ‘05-’07 model years, especially since 4x4's ditch the leaf spring and have a coil spring front suspension.
